Today, Texas Governor Greg Abbott released a School and Firearm Safety Action Plan following three days of roundtable meetings at the State Capitol last week. The report comes on the heels of the school shootings in Santa Fe, where 10 people were killed.
The 40-page plan lays out a strategy for preventing future school shootings that includes expanding the existing School Marshal Program, which governs the arming of school personnel, and also includes some tightening of Texas gun safe and storage laws.
To be enacted, the plan would require the approval of the Legislature, which will reconvene in January 2019.
