School Reevaluating Dress Code after Suspending Male Student for Makeup

Alvin ISD is currently under fire after suspending a male student for wearing makeup to school.

Currently, the school district holds a dress code policy prohibiting boys from wearing makeup to school. But after suspending a male student for violating this code, the district became the target of an online petition to get the dress code changed. Officials are now reevaluating the policy, according to local station KHOU11.

The petition was drafted by student Jasmine Richards in support of her friend who was suspended. Within four days, the petition had almost reached its 1,500-signature goal. Richards told KHOU her friend was not aware of the dress code when he chose to wear makeup to school, but that it is outdated at any rate.

School officials say the dress code is not “set in stone” and is something they review periodically, which they are doing now.
