Texas Suicide Prevention Toolkit Available

The Texas Health and Human Services Commission and the Texas Institute for Excellence in Mental Health have updated their mental health toolkit. It promotes the Zero Suicide in Texas initiative (ZEST) that started in 2012.

The Toolkit provides an overview of the ZEST model and steps to implement it. It also includes guidance on best practices, practical guidance on implementing the elements of Zero Suicide, and example implementation plans from organizations using this framework. The guidance includes:

  • Screening for Suicide Risk
  • Suicide Risk Assessments
  • Workforce Competency in Suicide Prevention
  • Safety Planning
  • Pathways to Care
  • Care Transitions
  • Postvention
