Education Funding Bill Sent to the Governor

The Texas Legislature has passed House Bill 2 (HB 2), an $8.5 billion public education funding package, which is now awaiting Governor Greg Abbott’s signature.

Approximately $4.2 billion is allocated for teacher pay raises, with amounts varying based on experience and district size. An additional $500 million is designated for raises for support staff, including counselors, librarians, nurses, custodians, and bus drivers.

The bill increases the basic allotment by $55. HB 2 also provides approximately $850 million to enhance special education services and invests in early childhood education, including full-day pre-kindergarten programs, early learning interventions, and career and technical education initiatives.
